Matt Miller, a fall 2013 graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, has been selected as a Lifetime Pioneer. The designation was made by the UW-Platteville Alumni Association, which annually recognizes outstanding graduates by awarding them life membership in the association, currently a $400 value. Lebanese student studying agribusiness at UW-Platteville – November 15, 2013

The Elizabeth Summers International Fellowship Fund is offered through the Education Abroad Office at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
Summers’ parents emigrated to Southwest Wisconsin from Lebanon. Two of her siblings attended the Wisconsin Institute of Technology, which later became UW-Platteville. Summers saw the opportunity to create a program that exposed students to different cultures. She generously left funds from her estate to establish the exchange program at UW-Platteville. Going once, going twice, sold! UW-Platteville Pioneer Dairy Club host’s annual consignment sale – November 4, 2013

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer Dairy Club hosted its 31st annual Pioneer Dairy Classic on Saturday, Oct. 26. at the Grant County Fairgrounds.  Throughout the summer, students visit local farmers to ask if they would like to sell cattle in the consignment sale. The Dairy Club receives a commission for selling the cattle and the rest of the profit goes to the owner. Animals could be dropped off on Wednesday or Thursday the week of the sale.  Read more...

Murphy gains work experience at Pioneer Farm – October 29, 2013

“Students at the Pioneer farm are what make the operation run day to day,” said Cory Weigel, University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer Farm dairy enterprise manager.  “Employment at the Pioneer Farm is a great opportunity for students to work on a farm and to learn about production agriculture.” Michael Murphy, a graduating senior from Winnebago, Ill., has been an employee at the farm for two years. Collegiate soils team advances to national competition  October 24, 2013

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville participated in the Students in Agronomy, Soils, and Environmental Sciences Region III Collegiate Soils competition Oct. 9-12. The contest was hosted by UW-Stevens Point and held in the Stevens Point area. Approximately 60 students from six universities participated in the competition. Read more...

Dairy judging team attends first contest of the year October 2, 2013

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville dairy judging team competed in its first contest of the year, the Accelerated Genetics Intercollegiate Dairy Judging Contest, on Sept. 15 in Viroqua, Wis.

The team, finishing seventh out of 15 teams overall, consisted of senior animal science major Kami Schuler from Platteville, junior animal science major Tess Zettle from Juda, Wis., senior animal science major Angie Stier from Kiel, Wis. and sophomore agribusiness major Brock Kasten from Brillion, Wis. The team also placed fifth in the Milking Shorthorn breed, and Zettle brought home third place in the Guernsey breed and fourth place individual overall. Read more...

Alpha Gamma Rho hosts annual AgFest at UW-Platteville – September 30, 2013

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Beta Gamma chapter of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity hosted UW-Platteville’s annual AgFest on Sept. 10 to get students involved with clubs and organizations in the field of Agriculture. College of BILSA announces award winners September 5, 2013

University of Wisconsin-Platteville College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture officials have selected recipients for the college’s annual awards. Tom and Renée Sigwarth, owners of Country Kitchen and Dairy Queen in Platteville, were selected for the Friend of the College Award; Gloria Stuckey was selected for the Distinguished Employee Award; Wendy Stankovich was selected for the Outstanding Employee Award, and Chris Baxter was selected for the Thomas and Lee Ann Lindahl Teaching Excellence Award. Sunflower Solution proj​ect takes root – August 27, 2013

A partnership between UW-Platteville and UW Extension, utilizing the benefits of sunflowers, may have a bright future. On June 4, 6.7 acres of sunflower seeds were planted in a field west of the Platteville Menards store. A group of approximately 50 curious onlookers attended a field day Aug. 26 to learn more about the Sunflower Solution project and to check the status of the sunflowers. Read more...

To promote crop diversification, enhance biodiversity and keep food sourcing local, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville is growing six acres of sunflowers just west of the Platteville Menards store this summer. Student interns at Augusta Nati​onal Golf Club – June 17, 2013

Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., has a reputation for quality golfing and greenery as it hosts the Masters Tournament every year, which is one of four major championships in professional golf. University of Wisconsin-Platteville student, Kevin Hartenberger, a senior ornamental horticulture major from Rockford, Ill., recently finished his internship at Augusta National Golf Club course, the same course on which professional golfers such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have played.
