ABOUT CAMPUS READ

The Campus Read Program at UW-Platteville, which was established in 2012, is designed to engage the campus and surrounding community in a shared reading activity which will facilitate discussion and learning both inside and outside of the classroom. The campus read objectives include elevating connections among campus, the Platteville community, and interested alumni; promoting and engaging in dynamic conversations about diverse ideas; enhancing students' critical thinking skills; raising awareness of cultural likenesses and differences; and fostering a sense of community via enhanced and guided interactions and discussions.

“This program is an example of a high-impact practice that will be beneficial across all curricula,” said Dr. Mittie Nimocks den Herder, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Each year, the book is required reading for all students enrolled in UW-Platteville Studies courses, which are sometimes referred to as “Introduction to College Life.”

“The Campus Read Program introduces new students to the expectations of a university education and creates a shared experience that engages students, faculty, staff and the public on a topic that increases awareness of academic, cultural, and social issues,” said Dr. Kory Wein, Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Education at UW-Platteville and the 2013 Campus Read co-chair.
