Civil Engineering

Objectives:

Our goal is to provide students with a professional practice-oriented educational background that will enable them to enter and succeed in their future careers. Specific objectives for attaining this goal are:

  •     Successfully apply technical knowledge to solve engineering problems.
  •     Effectively and accurately communicate technical information orally and in writing.
  •     Demonstrated progress towards obtaining professional engineering licensure.

Outcomes:

Students graduating from our degree program will be competent in the following areas:

a. Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
b. Ability to:

i. design experiments
ii. conduct experiments
iii. analyze and interpret data

c. Ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs
d. Ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams
e. Ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
f. Understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
g. Ability to communicate effectively
h. The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context
i. Recognition of the need for, and the ability to engage in life-long learning
j. Knowledge of contemporary issues
k. Ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice

Environmental Engineering

Objectives:

After practicing engineering for 3-5 years, our graduates will be able to:

1. Effectively and accurately communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
2. Successfully apply technical knowledge to solve engineering problems to satisfy client, industry, and governmental requirements.
3. Have the ability to evaluate projects from a holistic perspective including some or all of the following: sustainability, environmental impacts, ethics, aesthetics, politics, historical perspectives, social impacts, technical needs, and costs.
4. Make significant and innovative contributions in their professional endeavors.
5. Become registered professional engineers.
