What do we do?

  • Maintain a web-based artist directory that provides images and contact information for artists in the region.

The ArtsBuild Directory is an important resource for increasing the visibility of artists in the region and a resource for individuals and businesses interested in purchasing art.

  • Make art accessible throughout the community through a variety of unique exhibition venues.

ArtsBuild works with area business and building owners to provide artwork in rotating “pop-up” galleries. These changing exhibits make art accessible to the entire community and help make these public spaces more attractive and engaging.

  • Provide opportunities for artists to show and sell their work in public settings.

ArtsBuild provides a variety of exhibition opportunities for member-artists. The Harry and Laura Nohr Gallery, on the UW-Platteville campus, is host to the ArtsBuild Annual Exhibit and the Fabric and Fiber Exhibit.  Other opportunities to participate in solo and group exhibits may also be made available through the gallery.

Rotating shows of member’s work are exhibited in offices at the State Capitol and other area locations.

Projects are supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and National Endowment for the Arts.

  • Make information available about important arts-related news and events.

ArtsBuild e-mail updates are sent on a regular basis. These may include information from the Wisconsin Arts Board or Arts Wisconsin, details about upcoming arts events, and “calls for entry.”

  • Provide workshops, classes, and networking opportunities for artist-members and others in area communities.

ArtsBuild coordinates workshops and educational offerings for artists on professional and entrepreneurial skills needed for success. Art experiences for community members are made available in a variety of venues including: the UW-Platteville Continuing Education enrichment catalog, annual Sewing and Quilting Expo, and College for Kids.

Gallery receptions, workshops, and other events provide valuable networking opportunities for artists.

  • Work with political leaders, area business people, and creative entrepreneurs in support of the arts as an important tool for economic development.

The ArtsBuild program helps keep political, business, and community leaders aware of the importance of the arts industry and its positive impact on economic, cultural, and community well-being. A robust creative economy and vibrant cultural environment make the region more desirable.

The program continues to build partnerships with Main Street programs, Chambers of Commerce, UW-Extension offices, regional economic development organizations and statewide arts agencies in continued support of the creative economy.
