Jeffrey Buboltz

Jeffrey Buboltz
Associate Professor of Chemistry Department

Jeffrey Buboltz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry. He was born and raised in Madison. He did his undergraduate studies (chemistry, molecular biology, philosophy) at UW-Madison, before moving out east to do his PhD studies (biochemistry and physics) at Cornell University. He taught college physics, biochemistry, and cell biology in Upstate NY for several years before returning to Wisconsin in 2008 to take a position at UW-Platteville. His research interests include biodegradable nanoparticles, rapid solvent stripping, and semipermeable membrane formulations. He has more than ten years' experience mentoring undergraduate researchers, and his hobbies include wilderness camping and trail running.

Roger Gurira

Roger Gurira
Lecturer

Dr. Roger Gurira earned his BS degree in Chemistry from Central State University in Ohio and his Ph.D in Analytical Chemistry from Penn State University. He taught Chemistry at Grinnell College in Iowa, the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and the University of Zimbabwe before joining UW-Platteville in 2012. His research interests are in electroanalytical Chemistry, Liquid Chromatographic techniques and Environmental Chemistry.

Qiong Li

Qiong Li
Professor of Chemistry

Dr. Li earned her B.S. of Chemistry from Inner Mongolia Normal University in China, M.S. from Beijing Research Institute of Petroleum Processing, and Ph.D in Organic Chemistry from Northeastern University in Boston. She then worked as a postdoc at University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA. She also taught at West Liberty State College in WV before joining UW-Platteville Chemistry program in 2001. Her research activities are focused on investigating electronic and steric effects on the conformations of 1-arylpiperazines in solution by various NMR techniques and studying structure-activity relationships in the cleavage of DNA by arenediazonium salts. Her hobbies are skiing, dancing and traveling.

Chanaka Mendis

Chanaka Mendis
Chair, Chemistry Department

Dr Chanaka Mendis earned his BS Of Chemistry from SUNY/college at Old Westbury and MS and Ph.D in Chemistry from Georgetown University. He also worked for the Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) Silver Spring, MD before joining UW-Platteville Chemistry program in 2004. His research activities are focused on studying signaling activities and gene expression patterns to identify, target and block cellular activities that make drugs ineffective. He also likes playing cricket and gardening.

Joseph Wu

Joseph Wu
Associate Professor of Chemistry

Dr. Wu is an assistant professor in Chemistry. He earned his Ph.D. degree from Auburn University and B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Tech. Since 2008, Dr. Wu has been working on developing prototype electrochemical sensors, which can be used in medical diagnostics and forensic investigation. Dr. Wu enjoyed engaging students in innovative projects and has extensive experience in conducting research with undergraduate students. His hobbies include badminton and gardening. He is currently the undefeated champion of badminton at UW-Platteville. Participants are welcome to challenge him in the badminton game during the evening.
