This course will give students a comprehensive view of organizational theory and behavior by studying individual and group behaviors and how these interrelate with the organization's structure, systems and goals.|

At the end of this course, you should be able to
- Analyze how individual and group behaviors act as building blocks to organizational behavior.
- Analyze team behavior and its effect on productivity.
- Articulate the importance of organizational behavior in the management of an organization.
- Research and analyze aspects of organizational behavior.
- Communicate and interact with team members.
- Identify and apply organizational behavior concepts to scenarios and cases.
Unit 1: Warm-up Exercises: Before We Begin, We Prepare
Like any good athlete about to enter a competition, we prepare by performing a series of exercises that get us ready to be competitive on the playing field. Because of the very nature of this subject and the amount of formal and informal writing that is involved, it is prudent that you take the time to read, review, and complete a series of tutorials before we begin. These activities are meant to be self-directed and students are encouraged to fully take advantage of them. No report of your experience is required. The quality of the written papers will demonstrate later, those who took advantage of these tools.
Unit 2: Individual Behavior in the Organization
Now we need to explore how individual behavior affects the organization. Individuals, of course, lay the groundwork for team and system behavior, so it is logical for us to begin here. Individuals are very complex beings and their behavior is not easily understood. One place to begin the process of understanding individual behavior is by understanding our own behaviors!
Unit 3: Group Behavior in the Organization
Now that we understand how individual behaviors influence the organization, we are ready to examine how a collection of people affect the functioning of an organization. We will find that individual perspectives combined with organizational idiosyncrasies make analysis difficult!
Unit 4: The Organization as a Structure
Our final unit focuses on the organization as a system. Behavior can be strongly influenced by the way in which a company is organized. Reporting relationships, levels of hierarchy, formality of process all can influence how people and teams conduct themselves. You will get a chance to discover how companies you are familiar with influence your work life.
