Welcome to Dobson Hall
Dobson Hall, named after George R. Dobson and built in 1965, provides a living environment for men and women. Dobson is one of the larger residence halls on campus with approximately 320 residents and contains a music room that has a piano for student use. The hall is very active in hall and campus sponsored events. Each fall Dobson staff and residents host Trick or Treat, a safe Halloween event for the children and their families in the Platteville community. Over 300 families participate each year. During the spring semester, Dobson hosts Jail N Bail, an annual charity event, where students can "arrest" their friends and hall staff. The charities for the event are selected each year by the Dobson Hall Forum, the hall governance group.
From the Desk of the Resident Director
I want to start by saying it has been a great semester and I can’t wait to see what all happens in the weeks to come! Between move-in, Homecoming and Trick or Treat this building has been very busy! The best part is we are not done yet!
The annual Thanksgiving Charity Drives starts November 18, 2013 and we are looking to raise about $350 as a hall! Hall Forum has set this goal and I bet you all can reach it! If you don’t know the drive raises money for local and national/international organizations to help bring awareness and funds to their causes. This year the charities are: Easter Seals Wisconsin and in honor of a recent speaker to campus, We Want Peace organization. The charity drives works like this: pennies are positive points and everything else is negative. The RAs, SA Sydney and I, RD Becca, each have a container located at the front desk for you to drop off your money in. Each night there will be staff members eliminated, but remember the winning wing gets a pizza party and if SA Sydney or I win, there is a surprise for Hall Forum!
If you need to stay on campus over Thanksgiving break check the front desk for the sign-up sheet. You must have permission ahead of time to stay and all that means is you sign-up on the list by Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at noon. The hall closes at 6 pm, so please plan accordingly.
After break we have some really fun things in store for all of you before finals. One of those events is a cupcake making and eating, so watch for publicity on that. Another event is our Friday Night Club! We will be hosting an open mic (microphone) night, called Java Jamz, complete with coffee, tea and hot coco! Bring your talent and share with the group! All types are accepted and we would love to have you there! Dec. 6th at 9 pm in the South basement, everyone is invited!
There is more to come, but I don’t want to spoil all the anticipation!
Remember to give thanks this month for what is important to you and have a safe break!
