Welcome to Dobson Hall

Dobson Hall, named after George R. Dobson and built in 1965, provides a living environment for men and women. Dobson is one of the larger residence halls on campus with approximately 320 residents and contains a music room that has a piano for student use. The hall is very active in hall and campus sponsored events. Each fall Dobson staff and residents host Trick or Treat, a safe Halloween event for the children and their families in the Platteville community. Over 300 families participate each year. During the spring semester, Dobson hosts Jail N Bail, an annual charity event, where students can "arrest" their friends and hall staff. The charities for the event are selected each year by the Dobson Hall Forum, the hall governance group.

From the Desk of the Resident Director

Dobson Hall!!  Are you ready for Jail n’ Bail?  If you don’t know what that means, it is our annual fundraiser to not only support our Trick-or-Treat program, but also this year we will be supporting the MS walk held in Platteville.  Our fabulous mailman, John, lost his brother a year ago to MS and we want to give our support for research to help people with MS.   Jail n’ Bail is a chance to lock up your friends for an hour in support and if they want to get out early they either have to double the warrant cost or do something slightly embarrassing in return.  The cost to lock someone up is: students, $2; Resident Assistants and Senior Assistants, $5; and Resident Directors, $25.  Officer Kirk Osborne has offered to be locked up for an hour or two – his cost is $25, so get your friends together and lock him up!
April break is coming up very quickly! Make sure you are planning ahead. April Break begins Thursday April 17th, and the halls will close at 6pm. The halls will re-open on Sunday April 20th at 5pm. Students are able to stay in the buildings during this break, but you do need to sign up to stay. There is a sign up form available at the front desk you must sign up to stay even one night. Make sure you fill out that form to confirm your spot here.  As a reminder if you have a loft and took your bed ends home, those will need to be returned before you can check out for the end of the year. This is a good time to do some spring cleaning to get your room organized as well as taking belongings that are not being used either home or donating them.
The Friday after April Break, Southwest Hall and Porter Hall are working together to bring to you a Friday Night Club event that will make you want to grab your dress clothes and dancing shoes.  On Friday, April 25th from 9pm-11pm in Velzy Commons, a Great Gatsby-themed spring formal (wear whatever you have or hit up the thrift shop) will be a night to remember.  Velzy Commons will be transformed into the Roaring 20s with themed decorations, photo opportunities, and music.  We hope that you are able to attend!
Lastly, if you are returning to Dobson Hall next year, and would like to keep your belongings in your bedroom over the summer, you may want to participate in our brand new summer storage program.  All of the information about this program can be found by clicking HERE.
If you have a concern, or just wish to chat, stop by my office.
Enjoy the warmer weather and all the fun things happening at the end of this semester!
