UW-Platteville Education Abroad has been helping students from across the United States study at St. Mary's University (SMU) since 1998.  Since then, students from more than 130 universities nationwide have chosen to study abroad in London, England through UW-Platteville Education Abroad.  Today, students can study at SMU for:

  • an academic year
  • a fall semester
  • a spring semester

SMU is located in Strawberry Hill, Twickenham in southwest London. Founded in 1850 as a Catholic university, SMU is recognized as the oldest Catholic university in the United Kingdom and today welcomes students of all faiths and traditions.  With a total enrollment of about 4,000 students, international students from around the world account for nearly 10 percent of the student population, bringing a unique international perspective to SMU.

Occupying a single, self-contained campus, SMU consists of around thirty acres of lawns and playing fields near the River Thames and is approximately 30 minutes by train from central London.  The surrounding community offers a range of shops, restaurants, pubs, and cafes, and London’s museums, concert halls, theatres, galleries, and nightlife are just a train ride away. For students who want the London experience but enjoy suburban campus-based life, SMU has all of the advantages of living in London without the worries, hassles, and expense.
