This year's program will take place
Monday, October 28, 2013.
The Thermo Fisher Scientific Women in Engineering Career Day at UW-Platteville is an event for young women who are interested in learning about a career that requires creative problem-solving, encourages forward-thinking, makes a difference in society, and shapes the future of our world.
Participants who attend Career Day will:
- learn about seven different types of engineering through exciting demonstrations;
- enjoy the opportunity to work in teams on hands-on projects;
- get to know other girls who share their interests;
- interact with engineering college students and faculty; and
- begin to see themselves as engineers.
The program is intended for young women in grades eight through 12. Individuals, groups, and school classes are encouraged to attend. Teachers, parents, and chaperones are welcome as well. Women from African-American, Native American, Latino/a, Laotian, Vietnamese, Hmong, and Cambodian communities are especially encouraged to attend.
The schedule allows you to customize your day by choosing the sessions that are of interest to you. You’ll have the opportunity to learn more about seven different types of engineering: civil, electrical, engineering physics, environmental, industrial, mechanical, and software. In the afternoon, you’ll also have a chance to explore other science, mathematics, and technology fields outside of engineering.
