At UW-Platteville, both international and U.S. students have the opportunity to get involved with many intercultural programs offered through the International Programs Office:
The CASA Program: Community Ambassadors for Students from Abroad is designed to encourage interaction between UW-Platteville's international students and the Platteville/tri-state community. This program will allow students and community members to explore the tri-state area together, share each other's culture, and discover a new friend.
The International Student Club (ISC), open to both U.S. and international students, educates and promotes global understanding through learning about different cultures, having fun, and organizing international programs, events, and activities. Register on Pioneer Link under "International Student Club."
In the Global Amigos Program, new international students are paired with a “Mentor Amigo” who is a current U.S. or international student. The Global Amigos Program can be a rewarding experience for all participants as it provides opportunities for cultural and social relationships that can create a foundation for lasting friendships.
Apply to be an International Student Orientation Leader for the next International Student Orientation! Orientation Leaders will help the new international students move in to their dorm rooms, give campus tours, participate in social activities, and serve as a resource for the students during their first few days at UW-Platteville.
International Night is an event organized by the International Student Club that has taken place on the UW-Platteville campus for over 45 years. Currently, International Night takes place once per year during the spring semester.
The Conversation Partner program involves groups of 2-3 people in which at least one participant is a non-native speaker of English and at least one participant is a native speaker of English. Conversation partners meet at least once per week during the semester at UW-Platteville and speak in English and learn about each other's culture through conversation.
UW-Platteville celebrates International Education Week (IEW) each fall, so watch for information about IEW campus events and activities! Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in doing a presentation, performance, or activity during International Education Week.
The International Student Advisory Board (ISAB) gives international students the opportunity to provide advice and feedback to the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office on issues that are important to the international student population and that impact the international student experience at UW-Platteville. The board will be composed of up to six undergraduate and graduate international students from different programs and countries who apply and are accepted to ISAB.
Global Lunch Hour is an informal gathering of international and U.S. students, faculty, and staff that takes place regularly throughout the semester. Each Global Lunch Hour features a different topic, such as cultural customs, slang, friendship/relationships/dating, education systems, communication styles, and family roles and expectations in different parts of the world.
