Biography

Soprano Rebekah Demaree is active as a concert soloist and recitalist. Her 2008-09 upcoming appearances include two recitals with Kassia: Women in Song, (Nov 08 and Feb 09), soprano soloist in Brahms' Requiem, (Mar 09), two performances of Brahms' Alte Liebeslieder quartet (both in Feb 09), and selected songs of Spohr with Rountree Ensemble (Apr 09). In the past year she has sung the soprano solos in Mozart's Requiem and Handel's Messiah as well as recitals on the Heritage Church Series, Madison; Fabulous Fridays, Dubuque; and twice with Kassia at UW-Platteville.

Ms. Demaree has appeared as soprano soloist with the Classical Music Festival in Austria three times performing Haydn's Heiligmesse, Schopfungsmesse and Paukenmesse, Schubert's Der Hirt auf dem Felsen and Telemann's Trauermusik. In June 2010, she will reprise her solo work in the Heiligmesse in New York City. Demaree has recitalized throughout the United States, with appearances in Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin, including live broadcasts for the 31st Street Concert Series in Austin, Live from the Elvehjem, and Live from the Chazen in Madison. A graduate of Indiana University and the University of Idaho, Demaree coached extensively with John Wustman and was one of the singers involved in the six-year song recital series that toured and performed all of Franz Schubert's lieder from 1990-1997. She has appeared as guest soloist with the Spokane Symphony, Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, Elkhart Symphony, and the Washington/Idaho Symphony, Waukesha Orchestra, as well as a number of collegiate orchestras.

Ms. Demaree's vocal studio at UW-Platteville is comprised of 30 majors and minors, from freshmen through senior recitalists. Her students have competed at NATS competitions and the UWP Concerto/Aria competition, where they have won both the collegiate and high school divisions. Demaree teaches both fall and spring semesters of class voice to non-majors and non-minors who are interested in improving their vocal technique and having solo performing opportunities.

Rebekah Demaree teaches Diction for Singers year-round. The Fall semester includes English, Latin and Italian, while German, Spanish and French are studied in the Spring semester. She also maintains a private voice studio. In 2007-08, Demaree was awarded the first mini-sabbatical Lifelong Learning Grant from the College of Liberal Arts and Education to study Spanish language and culture.
