David Holsinger, Guest Clinician/Conductor

The annual UW-Platteville Tri-State Honors Band Festival provides rewarding music experiences for high school band students and directors.  A nationally recognized conductor/clinician and UW-Plattevile music faculty offer concerts, master classes, a reading session and professional clinics.  Our guest conductor/clinician for 2014 is David R. Holsinger. 

The festival is hosted by UW-Platteville Director of Bands, Barry Ellis and Associate Director of Bands, Matthew Gregg.

David Holsinger

David R. Holsinger, composer/conductor has twice been the recipient of the prestigious Ostwald Composition Prize of the American Bandmasters Association. He joined the School of Music faculty at Lee University, Cleveland, Tennessee, as the inaugural Conductor of the Lee University Wind Ensemble.  Holsinger’s duties include teaching advanced and graduate level instrumental conducting, orchestration, and composition.

Holsinger is an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association and was inducted into Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity’s distinguished Alpha Alpha Chapter at its National convention in Orlando.  He was also presented with the Signature Sinfonian Medal, one of the fraternity’s highest honors.  His compositions have won four major competitions, including a two time ABA Ostwald Award. His compositions have also been finalists in both the DeMoulin and Sudler competitions.

Other awards include the Phi Beta Mu “Outstanding Bandmaster of the Year” and the Women Band Directors International “Al G. Wright Award” for his continued support through the years of women band directors.  Additionally, Holsinger has been named a National Patron of Delta Omicron Music Fraternity, awarded the Distinguished Music Alumni Award from Central Missouri State University, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia’s Orpheus Award, as well as, honorary memberships in Kappa Kappa Psi National Music Fraternity and the Women’s National Band Directors Association, and most recently, honored as a Sigma Alpha Iota National Arts Associate.
