PLATTEVILLE - Pioneer Farm is pleased to announce the addition of two new employees. Sneha Jonnala and Matt Komiskey began working for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer Farm in October. Jonnala is the new information systems specialist, and Komiskey is the new associate research specialist.
As information systems specialist, Jonnala will be responsible for program analysis, data management, record keeping and report development. She will be designing, building and managing farm and research records database systems.
Jonnala comes to Pioneer Farm with an impressive background in genetics and agricultural economics. Jonnala earned her B.S. in agriculture and an M.S. in genetics and plant breeding in her home country of India. She has also earned an M.S. in ag economics from Texas A&M and has completed two years of doctoral coursework in ag economics at UW-Madison. In addition, she has extensive knowledge of database management.
As the associate research specialist for Pioneer Farm, Komiskey will conduct and oversee daily research activities including developing and implementing sampling procedures, data entry and analysis, record keeping and report writing. A large amount of Komiskey's time will be spent conducting research and analyzing agricultural systems research. He will also be responsible for report writing, record keeping, presentations, fieldwork, lab work, animal husbandry and other research duties.
Komiskey also brings a variety of skills and experience to Pioneer Farm. He earned a B.S. degree in water chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. As a student, he was involved in numerous special projects and courses in areas such as water analysis and conservation. While at UWSP, Komiskey worked as a water laboratory manager and research assistant. In addition, he has volunteered with the natural resource conservation service on a variety of projects.
"The ideal job that I was pursuing was one that would enable me to continue to do research. This position with Pioneer Farm is exactly what I was looking for," Komiskey said. "It's also a great learning opportunity because I get to take what I have learned in theory and put it into practice. I am interested in the effect that agriculture has on the environment on a whole-farm level."
