Kluever and Sigwarth elected as student body president and vice president

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville students recently voted Joe Kluever, a junior majoring in criminal justice from Bettendorf, Iowa, student body president and Joseph Sigwarth, a sophomore majoring in business administration from Platteville, Wis., vice president.

Kluever and Sigwarth were encouraged by others to join student senate. “I’ve been on senate for two years and was encouraged to join by former President Predaina after telling him about my internship with a congressman back home,” said Kluever. Sigwarth has been on senate for one year and joined after attending a few meetings and speaking with former Vice President Jordan Miller about senate involvement. Kluever served on executive board as the student organizations director for one and a half years, while Sigwarth sat as a senator for a year, gaining the position of senate’s parliamentarian during the 2013 spring semester.

As referenced throughout their campaign for president and vice president, the Joes decided to run based on shared views of how senate could continue to grow and new initiatives that could benefit the student body. “I felt that President Kluever would be the best candidate to run because of his experience of working with senate and knowing the ins-and-outs of what already has happened,” said Sigwarth. “Kluever and I have a vision for how Student Senate can continue to help the student body and implement the ideas we have towards making senate a more visible governance body in our peers’ eyes.”

Kluever and Sigwarth are looking forward to seeing how far they take their ideas and implement them into how senate serves the students. “We look forward to maintaining a relationship with student organizations by visiting them and helping increase the awareness of who Student Senate is and what we do for the students,” said Kluever.

Kluever and Sigwarth are striving to make sure the ideas they created during the campaign are implemented and used by the students. “We want to keep on taking senate further and work off of the dedication already put into senate’s numerous committees and policies,” said Sigwarth.

“We want to make sure that our initiatives and programs are pushed forward and completed during our term,” said Kluever. “We’re determined to do the best possible job for the students and make sure their needs are being met.”
