PLATTEVILLE-Traveling to area high schools to promote the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and giving prospective students tours of the campus, student ambassador Joshua Saylor of Necedah was awarded the UW-Platteville Alumni Association Super Senior/Honorary Life Membership Award.

Saylor graduated from UWP Dec. 14, with a bachelor of science degree in business administration and an emphasis in computer science. In addition to his involvement with the student ambassadors, Saylor was also a UW System ambassador, a business and accounting ambassador, a member of the Society for the Advancement of Management and was on the homecoming steering committee - serving as parade co-coordinator this fall. Nominate by Theresa Burns of Karrmann Library, Saylor's contributions to the University as an automation assistant made him an ideal candidate for the award.

"Joshua is a great asset to the automation department at Karrmann Library," Burns said. "His major responsibilities involve Visual Basic programming, Microsoft Access file design, maintenance, data input and reporting. He thoroughly tests and documents his work and his pleasant, approachable manner make the staff comfortable asking him for help."

Saylor's involvement expands beyond the University. He is an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Platteville and serves on several committees. He volunteers to distribute communion and reads at the Sunday worship service. Saylor is also a member of the Knights of Columbus through his church and enjoys sports - umpiring for local baseball and softball games and officiating at football and basketball games.

As a recipient of the Super Senior/Honorary Life Membership Award, Saylor received a plaque and a lifetime membership to the UW-Platteville Alumni Association. Saylor said he believes he was nominated for the award based on several reasons.

"I have a sincere concern and admiration for UWP and the people who help it run successfully," Saylor said. "I have been actively involved on many levels in my time as a student which gave me the ability to network and form relationships with a variety of people. I am truly honored to be presented with this award. I feel it marks the beginning of my involvement with UW-Platteville as a proud alumnus."

Saylor is a 1998 graduate of Necedah High School and the son of Gib and Peggy Saylor of Necedah. Following graduation, he has accepted a position as a programmer analyst with Northwestern Mutual in Milwaukee. He and his wife, Anne, anticipate moving to Milwaukee in January.
