PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville will send about 12 students and two faculty members to attend Kappa Delta Pi’s 49th Biennial Convocation in Dallas, Texas from Thursday, Oct. 24 to Saturday, Oct. 26.

UW-Platteville students that will be attending the conference include Kevyn Webb, Platteville, Wis.; Jessica Pearce, Hazel Green, Wis.; Michelle Mauerman, Albany, Wis.; Lynea Axelson, Oregon, Ill.; Abby Swanson, Winnebago, Ill.; Patrick Ralph, Harlingen, Texas; Michelle Leverentz, Oak Creek, Wis.; Kendra Haug, Monroe, Wis.; Kelly Provancher, Yorkeville, Ill.

Kappa Delta Pi is an education honor society that was founded in 1911 at the University of Northern Illinois. There are 600 chapters and more than 4,000 members worldwide.

This year’s convocation theme is “Connecting in a Big Way.” Members of the conference will have the opportunity to network with professionals in the field of education through speakers, breakout sessions and meals.

UW-Platteville’s Iota Rho chapter has received the honor of being selected to do four separate presentations at the conference.

“It is a very competitive process. Many more presentations are submitted than accepted and I am so happy that we had a couple that were chosen,” said Dr. Rea Kirk, UW-Platteville education professor.

Subjects that students will be presenting on include response to intervention, infusing the arts into all areas of curriculum and the process of writing a manuscript for publication. All students attending the conference from UW-Platteville will be involved in at least one of the presentations.

Faculty members who will be attending the conference, along with UW-Platteville students, include Kirk and Dr. John Nkemnji, education professor. Both will be a part of the student presentations.

Nkemnji has also been selected to be in the honor chapter, which is the best of the best,” said Kirk.
