PLATTEVILLE — Suzanne Traxler, who has spent the past 23 years supporting information technology in higher education, is the new assistant vice chancellor for information technology and chief information officer at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
“Sue’s experiences in higher education information technology customer service and employee development stood out compared to the other finalists,” said search-and-screen committee chair Dr. Christina Curras, special assistant to the vice chancellor for Administrative Services. “I’m excited to welcome Sue to UW-Platteville and look forward to working with her.”
Traxler was previously the associate director of information technology services at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. She served in that capacity since 2007, after being the college’s associate director for administrative computing (2000-07) and the administrative computing service coordinator (1993-2000). She also previously served as a computer user services specialist for the University of Minnesota from 1990-93. She will begin at UW-Platteville on May 20.
“I am excited to join the UW-Platteville community,” she said. “I am looking forward to working with campus leaders, campus community members and OIT to provide excellent customer service and campus-wide technology planning. I envision a collaborative working relationship between OIT and the campus and look forward to building relationships across the institution.”
Among her accomplishments at Carleton were participating in a long-range plan for information technology, managing a $4 million operating budget for technology, negotiating hardware and software contracts and providing a large role in the staffing duties. Providing excellent customer service and collaborating with all constituents are two of her strengths, she added.
“Sue's leadership abilities will benefit the university as we develop our next information technology strategic plan and improve technology governance,” said Rob Cramer, vice chancellor for Administrative Services.
Traxler was raised on a farm just outside Eden Valley, Minn., the oldest of 12 siblings. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1989, majoring in technical communications. In 2010, she earned a Master’s of Business Administration in information technology management from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn.. She and her husband have three children.
“This will be a great opportunity, and I am excited to join UW-Platteville,” Traxler said. “I'm ready for the challenge and look forward to the opportunities here.”
