PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville has established a central University Governance Office in support of all faculty, academic staff and classified staff.

“This office was established to support the Faculty Senate, Academic Staff Senate, classified staff and the councils they oversee,” said Lisa Merkes-Kress, newly appointed University Governance Office director. “The University Governance Office is charged with establishing archives of all meeting minutes and activities within the respective committees.” The office also provides administrative support to the officers of the Faculty Senate, Academic Staff Senate and Classified Staff Advisory Committee as well as the chairs of all faculty and academic staff governance councils and commissions.

“This office will assist governance officers through training and transition from year to year,” said Dr. Laura Anderson, faculty member in French; chair of University Rank, Salary and Tenure Policy Commission; and chair of Faculty Senate.

The UW-Platteville governance on campus encompasses curriculum, academic affairs, faculty and staff affairs, university affairs and technology issues. The office also oversees the development of the university handbook and faculty handbook.

“This is a good solution to keeping everything consistent and running efficiently as these governance committees and their councils and commissions move forward year to year,” said Anderson.
