PLATTEVILLE- Plastics, a $60 billion Wisconsin industry, is taught with passion and zeal by University of Wisconsin-Platteville industrial studies faculty member Majid Tabrizi.

Tabrizi's enthusiasm recently earned him the Society of Plastics Engineers Service Award.

In his 16th year of teaching at UWP, Tabrizi received the award in April from the Society of Plastic Engineers for his wholehearted support of plastic research, effort and leadership to students enrolled in the plastic program at UWP.

Tabrizi came to the U.S. from Iran in 1977, earning a second bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering technology from Southwest State University in Minnesota. His Ph.D. was earned from the University of Northern Iowa.

UWP Provost and Vice Chancellor Carol Sue Butts praised Tabrizi for his excellent teaching skills and ability to inspire enthusiasm for learning at UWP. "Receiving this prestigious award is a great honor," said Butts.
