UW-Platteville will offer a “World Building” course for the first time this spring – one of the few schools in Wisconsin to offer this type of course. World building is the practice of creating a fictional world or reality to provide an original background and atmosphere for films, novels and video games, such as those created for “Avatar,” “The Lord of the Rings” and “Harry Potter.” Thomas Pitcher, English lecturer at UW-Platteville, will teach this English special topics course (English 3990). Four industrial engineering students at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville are using their classroom training to solve real problems in the workforce, as they analyze workflow procedures and facility layouts at Anderson Windows and Doors in Dubuque, Iowa as a part of their senior project for the Industrial Systems Design course. The UW-Platteville theatre program and Pioneer Players will present a benefit stage reading of Charles Dickens’ beloved holiday classic “A Christmas Carol” at the Center for the Arts Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $5 and the proceeds for the performance will go to the Engineers Without Borders organization on campus. On Nov. 22, UW-Platteville and St. Mary Central High School in Neenah, Wis. celebrated the grand opening of a Confucius Classroom at St. Mary Central High School, the first of its kind to be under the administration of the UW-Platteville Confucius Institute. It is the only Confucius Classroom in the Fox Cities and one of only a handful in Wisconsin. Read more...

UW-Platteville Student Ambassadors raised nearly $10,000 this fall through a tuition giveaway raffle. Starting at new student orientation and ending during family weekend, 15 Student Ambassador volunteers sold raffle tickets for the chance to win a free semester of in-state tuition, a $1,000 scholarship or one of two $500 scholarships.
