“Snow Emergency for Parking” ordinance is now in effect for anyone who parks a motor vehicle between November 15 and April 1 on the following UW-Platteville streets:
When Snow Emergency for Parking (SEP) is declared, vehicles must be parked as follows:
SOE= South and East sides of street on ODD days (see that O for ODD is in the middle)
Cemetery side of Greenwood, Wilgus side of College, Royce side of University.
NEW= North and West sides of street on EVEN days (see that E for EVEN is in the middle)
Res Hall side of Greenwood, Melcher side of College, apartment side of University
A Snow Emergency for Parking decision will be made by no later than 3:00 p.m. for the parking restriction to go into effect at 2:00 a.m. on the following date.
SEP will occur for a TWO DAY PERIOD, so that both sides of the street get plowed. A longer period of removal may be designated if more time is required to adequately clear the streets.
EXAMPLE: If a Snow Emergency for Parking is declared at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, all vehicles on the streets will have to be parked on the South or East sides of the streets by no later than 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29.
On the second night of Snow Emergency for Parking, vehicles on the streets will have to be parked on the North or West sides of the streets by no later than 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 30.
How will I know when a SEP is declared?
The University Police Department will issue parking citations for any vehicle parked in violation of the SEP rules. The citation amount is $50.00. If you drive / own / use a vehicle, it is your responsibility to find out if a SEP has been declared and follow the instructions.
Vehicles parked in violation of the SEP will be towed to Precision Automotive, 222 East Main Street (608-348-8144). The towing charge to remove a vehicle in violation is $125.00. There is a daily cost of $25.00 to store vehicles not picked up within 24 hours of towing. For example, if a car was towed on Monday morning, there would be no charge if the car was picked up on Monday or Tuesday. If the car is picked up on Wednesday, there would be a $25.00 fee for Tuesday storage, which is 24 hours after it was towed.
Commuter and Staff parking lots are restricted to No Parking from 2am-6am all year long. Anyone who violates this restriction during a snow declaration will be issued a $50 snow removal parking citation.
Where can you park during a SEP? Options include:
*Commuter, staff and metered lots/stalls or on Circle Drive between the hours of 2am-6am are restricted to NO PARKING all year long. Anyone who violates this restriction during a snow declaration will be issued a $50 snow removal parking citation.
*Meters by Southwest Hall and on University Plaza are enforced 24 hours, everyday. Parking permits are not valid at meters.
NOTE: An announcement of SEP by UW-Platteville has no relationship to classes being canceled. Please see the ‘Inclement Weather Policy for UW-Platteville’ for information on the procedures regarding scheduled classes.
For further clarification refer to the front desk and the SEP materials posted around the residence halls.
