Q:  Why are bids needed from printers?

A:  State law mandates that any off-campus printing jobs must be bid out or sent out to a contract printer. Not following the bidding process can lead to serious consequences. Depending on the project, we may be able to print your job on campus.

Q:  Can I alter the UW-Platteville logo?

A: No, the logo is a registered trademark. It may not be redrawn or altered in any manner. Contact the Publications Office if you'd like our help with a customized logo, letterheads, envelopes, or other similar needs.

Q:  What is it going to cost me, and how long will it take to have a job designed?

A:  Design work is free of charge. However, this does not include any printing costs. The turnaround time is dependent on the type of job and level of complexity. Business cards and letterhead, for example, take very little time. Discuss your project with a designer to determine a schedule; be sure to indicate any specific need-by dates.

Q:  What types of files are you able to use?

A:  We work in a Macintosh environment utilizing the latest versions of Adobe Creative Suite. We can open text only, rtf or Microsoft Word files; we are unable to open Microsoft Publisher files. Call us if you have questions about your specific file.

Q:  Can you use photos I supply?

A:  Hopefully, but it depends on the quality. We recommend that you call the campus photographers to come to your events or take photos. Publications requires that all photos used in a current campus publication should be a minimum of 200 dpi at actual size. In order to make your projects the best we can, we need high-quality images.

There are a wide variety of photographs to choose from in the Photography Office. To request a photographer at your event, fill out the online form or contact the Photography Office at 608.342.1195.

Q:  Can I make a new logo?

A:  The logo and wordmark are stictly protected and are critical for the university's brand, so even the smallest details are important. We strongly prefer that the UW-Platteville logo and wordmark come from our office. We have templates and can create one in a matter of minutes, depending on the current volume of work. Give us a call at 608.342.1197 and we can help you out. See the rules laid out in the Visual Identity System.

Q:  How long will it take at the printer?

A:  Off-campus printers require at least 10 to 15 business days depending on the complexity of the project. Pioneer Printing and Postal Services can turn around small jobs in a very short time. If you only need your project to be printed on campus, contact Pioneer Printing and Postal Services.
