Bachelors of science in art Education (wi teacher license b-21)

UW-Platteville is the first and oldest teacher preparation university in the state founded in 1866 as the Platteville Normal School. The Art Education Program draws on this long tradition of providing excellence in teacher education and provides students with a Bachelor of Science degree with certification by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction with a license to teach art in Wisconsin’s pre-school, elementary, and secondary schools.

Art educators are talented artists who work well with diverse populations of learners and enjoy sharing their passion for art and design through a professional teaching career. Children are the future and essential to their development is a well-rounded education in art and design. Our art education undergraduates receive coursework in art education methods, art history, studio art, professional education, and general education studies preparing them to teach in grades PK-12 classrooms. The mission of our program is to provide high quality instruction emphasizing the National Core Art Standards and best practices in education adopted by the UW-Platteville’s School of Education KSDS.

Art Education Quotes-Katie Bril

Student Testimonial

The Art Education Program at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville is flourishing. My art studio and methods courses allowed me to grow both as an artist and an art educator. Our professors provide a positive and creative learning environment that inspires and creates a caring, supportive artist community. Experiencing numerous teaching opportunities at the Platteville Children's Center; Wisconsin Institute for Discovery; and the Platteville Homeschool Network helped prepare me for my future teaching career through collaborations with professional educators, writing lesson plans and assessments, and making connections to the community.
